Venetian Carnival, or as it’s know in Italy as Carnivale, can be traced back to the 13th Century and has deep roots in Venetian history, tradition and art. The wearing of a Venetian Carnival Mask is an important part of the celebration of Carnivale. Historically the idea is that the mask wearer can remain anonymous during the celebration of Carnivale. This allowed the nobles to mingle and associate with “common folk” and vice versa.
